The Ferrari F40 is an iconic supercar that pervades every car enthusiast’s mind and to a very select, and lucky few, the enthusiast’s garage! Commissioned by the founder of Ferrari S.p.A, Enzo Ferrari, the F40 is seen by many as the last true supercar by Ferrari. For this reason, the F40 is held in high regard world over and each car has a bit of history that no other car on the planet shares. Despite the fact the F40 doesn’t adorn the founder’s name “Enzo”, unlike the 2003 Ferrari Enzo, the F40 is appreciated by the most sophisticated connoisseur and the schoolboy alike.
Leaving the advanced technological improvements in automobiles, the F40 represents a raw and bare-bones car; a thoroughbred through and through. With a 2.9L twin-turbo V8, the F40 puts out an amazing 471BHP and weighs in at an emaciated 2425 lbs.! This combination of lightweight and high horsepower, the F40 is a dangerously fast car. Blowing through to 62mph in a paltry 3.8 seconds, the F40 will send shivers down the spine of most drivers. A 5-speed manual gearbox accompanies the bucket seats and exposed carbon fiber in the interior.
The Ferrari F40 went through a metamorphosis to become a race car and became the F40 LM. Enjoying success in racing, the Ferrari F40, at least the road-going version, was ultimately retired in 1992 when production was stopped. All said and done, there are 1315 Ferrari F40s on the prowl, looking for their next victim on the road.
And of course, how an F40 should actually be driven!
